About Zoë
Zoë Newmarco (they/them/any) is a queer, COVID-informed, trauma-competent, full-spectrum doula, baby-wearing consultant, and owner of Trillium Birth, LLC.
The oldest of four children, Zoë became fascinated by pregnancy and birth at an early age. As a teenager, Zoë began working as a nanny for a family with a young baby. Although not yet a doula, Zoë offered this family supports similar to that of a postpartum doula, including child development information and parenting support, seeding the way for Zoë’s passion for supporting new families. Hand-in-hand with this, Zoë grew up practicing self-directed learning (also known as unschooling), and this ignited a passion for their own autonomy and making space for others to exercise autonomy, too.
In 2020, Zoë took their first doula training, and dove head first into accompanying people through prenatal, labor, birth, and postpartum experiences. While birth support remains at the center of their practice, Zoë’s offerings now include a wide range of other services, including abortion and loss support, doula support for those trying to access care for chronic symptoms/illness, and advocacy for people trying to access health care in a COVID-safer way.
In addition to starting their own private doula business in 2020, Zoë has worked as a community doula with Washington County Mental Health Services’ Doula Project, and through a handful of grant-funded doula programs that aim to make doula work financially accessible. Accessible doula care remains a priority for Zoë, who now contracts with the Doula Access Initiative, and is a member of the Ithaca Doula Collective.
As a chronically ill, gender-queer human, Zoë’s identities drives them to offer work that is reproductive justice and social justice-oriented. Zoë believes that all people are deserving of care that is individualized and support of them. Zoë believes each person is an expert in themselves, and strives to uplift clients’ voices, needs, and preferences throughout the time they work with each client. Zoë balances extensive knowledge and experience of navigating health care systems and reproductive health with an innate curiosity about each person they work with to create customized support for each client.
Outside of doula work, Zoë loves to spend time with reading, re-watching sitcoms, and snuggling with their cat, Gwynnie. Originally based in Central Vermont, Zoë is moving to Ithaca, NY in 2024 and is excited to expand their offerings to Tompkins County.
